Forty-Eight
Turned 48 today.
Did I have fun? You know, I did.
The day itself was nothing fancy, and that was the gift. Coffee with an old friend in the morning. Work - a purpose, where I’m respected and challenged. A scooter ride on a gorgeous day to treat myself to a burger and beer. Taekwondo in the evening. Dinner and walk with the kids to close it out.
There’s a line from Flaubert I keep coming back to:
The secret of being happy consists of knowing how to enjoy yourself — enjoy being at table, in bed, enjoy standing up, sitting down, enjoy the nearest ray of sunshine, the slightest bit of landscape: in other words, love everything.
Forty-eight looks like that, I think. Not the big arrivals — the nearest ray of sunshine.
Friends, exercise, good meals, purpose, and my kids nearby.
Heaven can be every day.
